Amos Adamu Offers Lasting Solution to NFF Crisis.

Image
Former CAF and FIFA Executive member, Amos Adamu has called on Stakeholders in Nigeria to restructure the electioneering process into and reward mechanism of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to entrench peace after elections are won and lost. The former NFF Sole Administrator was speaking on the heels of the recent imbroglio rocking the NFF since the April 8th Court ruling nullifying the Congress and eventual election of the Amaju Pinnick-led NFF Board in a case brought before it by football Administrator, Chris Giwa. Giwa and Pinnick were front runners to replace former President Aminu Maigari in 2014 but irregularities in their elections have since resulted in back and forth litigation. Adamu, who was Nigeria’s highest football Administrator in FIFA, insists that there is need to pacify candidates who lost in such elections in order to forestall lingering crisis as has since engulfed the Pinnick-led board of the NFF.

Federal High Court Sacks Amaju Pinnick As NFF President

Image
Reports have it that the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has been sacked by a Federal High Court sitting in Jos, the Plateau State capital. The court and also ordered Chris Giwa to resume office as president of the football federation. It was gathered that the duo of Adama Yahaya and Obinna Ogba had approached the court to re-list the suit against Pinnick which they withdrew after the intervention of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan. Before the court ruling, many Nigerians had demanded the resignation of Pinnick from office who blamed him for the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the AFCON 2017, same way they missed out on the 2015 edition. Pinnick had played down on the resignation calls, describing them as unnecessary. We await the reaction of the world football governing body (FIFA) to the new twist in Nigerian football as FIFA opposes football matters being taken to civil courts.

Arsenal Won Watford To Stay In Title Hunt

Image
Arsenal kept their slender Premier League title hopes alive with a 4-0 victory over Watford at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday that exacted some revenge for their FA Cup defeat by Quique Sanchez Flores’s side last month. Alexis Sanchez’s fourth-minute goal set the tone for a one-sided win that was completed by Alex Iwobi’s 38th-minute effort, Hector Bellerin’s strike early in the second half and Theo Walcott’s last minute tap-in. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had insisted before this game his side, currently in third place, could yet win the title if they won their remaining eight games. And this victory moved them to within eight points of leaders Leicester City, 24 hours before Claudio Ranieri’s side face Southampton. Veteran French boss Wenger had admonished Mesut Ozil earlier this week after the Germany international claimed Arsenal had “screwed up” their title challenge. Having been clear favourites at the turn of the year, it was hard to disagree with Gunners playmaker Ozil’s co...

Image

Champions League : Bayern Knock Out Juventus In Thriller

Image
Bayern Munich fought back from two goals down to beat Juventus in extra time, dramatically progressing to the Champions League quarter-finals. With the tie poised at 2-2 after the first leg, Paul Pogba and Juan Cuadrado scored to put Juve in command. Robert Lewandowski’s header gave Bayern hope but Juve looked to have seen them off until Thomas Muller’s 90th-minute goal forced the match into extra time. And a buoyed Bayern finished in style through Thiago and Kingsley Coman. The hosts – who had dominated possession to little effect in normal time – played with more urgency after Muller’s lifeline, with the introduction of substitutes Coman and Thiago playing a key part in the turnaround. Juventus will not only have to come to terms with falling so close to the finishing line, but the pill will be even more bitter knowing that the player who inflicted the killer blow was Coman, a talented teenager on a long-term loan at Bayern from the Bianconeri. The 19-year-old Frenchman made three as...

Image
In continued calculated moves by the new board of the world soccer governing body, FIFA to erase its erstwhile president, Sepp Blatter from football history, the Swiss has been left out of the body’s birthday wishes to football stakeholders across the world today. According to reports in The Sun UK and attendant posts by FIFA on its official Twitter handle on Thursday, Blatter was not mentioned in birthday wishes tweeted even though today is expected to be a memorable day for him as he turns 80 years old.
