Clarification on FX Trading Temporary Suspension

Image
Dear Customer! Yesterday, the Central Bank of Nigeria announced a temporary suspension of FCMB along with eight other commercial banks from access to the foreign exchange market. This suspension is based on the Treasury Single Account Directive, which stops banks from holding funds on behalf of government entities and instead, effect daily remittances to the CBN. For our bank, this suspension is based on our non-payment/transfer of the remaining $125mio NNPC fund with us to TSA. As a financial institution with strong corporate governance rules, we have always fully disclosed the outstanding TSA funds in our books and have continued to work assiduously to fulfill our outstanding obligations. The members of the NNPC Management Team have been kept fully in the picture on the funds. This scenario is really because of lack of foreign exchange availability and the prevailing fall in oil prices rather than concealment or wilful non-compliance by FCMB. It is actually a widespread industr...

Image
The Federal Government has warned fraudsters using the name of President Muhammadu Buhari and those of his family members and senior government officials to solicit favour or contracts from Ministries and other government establishments to desist from the criminal act or face the wrath of the law. In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the government is aware that some opportunists have been going from one government organization to another with notes purportedly recommending them for contracts and other patronage, using the names of the President, his family members and senior government officials to intimidate those organisations. The Minister said the President didn’t authorize any government official to write notes recommending anyone for contracts or any form of patronage, and warned those involved in such fraudulent activities to stop immediately or face possible arrest and prosecution by security age...

Image
President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to political leaders in Guinea Bissau to embrace unity and avoid any act that could plunge the nation into further crisis. Speaking while receiving Mr. Modibo Toure, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Guinea Bissau at the State House on Monday, President Buhari decried the lingering political crisis in the West African country. “They must accept responsibility for leadership to stabilize their own country”, the President warned, adding that the country’s political leaders, not outsiders that can effectively resolve the political crisis in the country. President Buhari told the visiting envoy that Nigeria would welcome increased support from ECOWAS and the United Nations to stabilize the country and prevent breakdown of law and order. President Buhari said Nigeria had a responsibility to the region and the rest of Africa and assured that “we will not shirk on our responsibility, in spite of the hardship confronting...

WE'RE READY FOR INVESTMENTS FROM ALL QUARTERS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF OUR PEOPLE- PRESIDENT BUHARI

Image
Nigeria as a country recognized her problems early enough, but remained potential for too long, and so did not achieve much results, President Muhammadu Buhari has declared. The President spoke Tuesday at State House, Abuja, while receiving Executive Members of Association of Africa Automotive Manufacturers (AAAM), led by the chairman, Mr Jeff Nemeth. President Buhari said that to reverse the trend, "We must avoid the mistakes made in the past by both government and manufacturers, and we are ready to get investment from all quarters, so that we can improve the lives of our people." The President lamented that Nigeria failed to develop on automobile initiatives started in Bauchi, Kaduna and Ibadan, and depended too much on oil as mainstay of her economy. "We are making efforts to start our steel industry all over again. I see vast opportunities for both the country and those who invest here," the President said. Nemeth said the Association comprised poten...

Probe Abandoned projects in Niger Delta Region: Group urges the Federal Government

Image
A nascent youth organization, the Niger Delta Youth  Council (NDYC)has urged the Federal Government to show spirited concern in the development of the Niger Delta region by ensuring that the avalanche of abandoned projects that dot the region are duly completed. The group also pledged to support efforts of the government to expose contractors who had abandoned projects awarded to them to ensure that such projects are completed according to specification or the contractors brought to book. In a statement jointly signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jator Abido and Delta Coordinator, Comrade Ajar Harrison, in Abuja, the NDYC observed that the region is flooded with abandoned projects that if completed will add immense value to the lives of the Niger Delta people. The statement unfortunately stated that those projects were abandoned because both the contractors and the benefiting community leaders either took advantage of the reign of impunity in the system then, and/or com...

SAVE LAKE CHAD FROM EXTINCTION, PRESIDENT BUHARI TO RICH NATIONS

Image
President Muhammadu Buhari has urged rich countries to do something urgent to save the Lake Chad from extinction, arising from the effects of climate change. Receiving the Director-General of UNESCO, Ms Irina Bokova, in Abuja on Thursday, President Buhari warned that the failure to regenerate the Lake Chad will lead to another round of migration by the people living in the areas. The President, who led seven ministers to an interactive meeting with the UNESCO chief, said Nigeria and the other countries of the Lake Chad Basin lacked the billions of dollars required to channel water from the Congo Basin into the lake to check its rapid depletion. “Those living in the Lake Chad region have suffered untold hardship and displacement because of the violence perpetrated by Boko Haram terrorists. ‘‘If there is no farming and fishing, they will dare the desert to migrate. “Unless the developed countries make concerted efforts to complete the feasibility study, mobilize resources and...

Nigerian Economy: Here is our reality, a speech by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo

Image
Very Distinguished Guests I am honoured to have been invited to participate at this important policy dialogue. The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry is perhaps Nigeria's most significant private sector group even if only because it is located in the Nation's commercial nerve centre, and of course draws its membership from that crucial community.  Please accept my commendations for this laudable initiative. I doubt whether there is any need to say that Nigeria in the past 15 months has gone through probably its most challenging period in recent history.   First just by way of providing a context let me start by recalling some of the challenges that we were confronted with when we came into office.     The immediate problem was the sharp decline in oil prices and production, and the lack of savings to cushion the impact. The crisis affected nearly all the sectors of the economy, as reflected in: Declining external reserves; Scarcity of foreign exchange ...

President Buhari remark at the inauguration of HYPREP

Remarks by His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President and Commander-in-Chief, Federal Republic of Nigeria at the Inauguration of the Governing Council and the Board of Trustees of the Trust Fund for the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) for the Implementation of the UNEP Report Protocols, 1. Today marks another milestone in the commitment that this Administration has made in ensuring the implementation of the UNEP Report in Ogoniland and other impacted sites. 2. I thank you all for accepting to serve on the Governing Council and on the Board of Trustees, respectively, of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project. 3. This is a very important endeavour that has direct impact on the lives and livelihoods of our brothers and sisters whose environments have been severely degraded by years of unchecked pollution from oil exploration activities. 4. It is exactly five years today, on the 4th of August 2011, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) submitted an exte...

NO MONEY WAS EMBEZZLED ON KPOPIE-BODO ROAD PROJECT,WIKE IS LYING - Senator Abe

The attention of Distinguished Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Rivers South East Senatorial District in the legislative re-run election has been drawn to a statement credited to Mr. Nyesome Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, imputing that he (Abe) embezzled N4 billion meant for the Kpopie-Bodo road project. Such allegation is laughable, very far from the truth and desecrates the office of Governor of Rivers State. This shows the extent the Governor could go in stooping low and indulging in bare faced lies, if only he could stop Senator Abe from being elected into the Senate. It is pertinent to state that Senator Abe is not cut out for corruption and was not the contractor, so could not have embezzled the money. The facts about the road project are there at the Ministry of Works for anybody to verify. Governor Wike should be reminded that contracts have terms and Ogoni people are wiser than any tricks he is trying to play. Let it be told to Ri...

SABOTAGE RETARDING NIGERIA’S PROGRESS

The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has been accused of low performance and delays in the implementation of projects. It has also been blamed for the high level of poverty in the country. Some critics have also insisted that the Buhari administration has not brought about any change at all.   The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) rejects these allegations. Buhari’s critics are like bad fire fighters who turn attention to the smoke instead of facing the fire. The more they fight the smoke, the more the fire burns and the worse the destruction. They are hypocrites and parasites, the more they look, the less they see. MURIC cannot stand akimbo and watch Nigeria burn. We must address the real issues. In the first place, this administration has good plans for Nigeria but saboteurs are desperate to sabotage the plans. The main dramatis personae in the camp of Judas is the present leadership of the National Assembly who treacherously seized the mantle of power in the absence of o...

PRESS RELEASE: Boko Haram Now Gives Loans To Youth As Bait For Membership

Image
It has come to the knowledge of the Defence Headquarters that Boko Haram terrorists have now devised another means of recruiting unsuspecting youths into their fold.   In this clandestine dispensation, Boko Haram terrorists have resorted to providing loans to young entrepreneurs and artisans in the North East as a way of inducing them for recruitment. The major targets of the unholy business engagement are youths in the North East, especially the butchers, traders, tailors, beauticians and other vocational entrepreneurs who could be easily enticed with such loan without paying attention to sundry inherent dangers associated with the acceptance of such goodies from this satanic group or unfamiliar source.  After such loans, the beneficiaries are given the option of either joining the group or risk being killed if they fail to pay the loan as at when due, whereas the payment has been surreptitiously programmed to fail by the benefactor, the Boko Haram. It is pertinent to state t...

TROOPS CLEAR BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS OUT OF BIGGORO AND WARPAYA

Image
Yesterday Saturday 16th April 2016, troops of 7 Division Strike Group Team B and 22 Task Force Brigade conducted a simultaneous dawn raid on suspected Boko Haram terrorists hideouts at Biggoro, Warpaya and Aura, North of Kumshe in Bama Local Government Area. The essence of the operation was stop the reported criminal activities of remnants of Boko Haram terrorists hiding in the three villages. This became necessary as previous efforts were futile. The suspected terrorists kept coming in search for food, water and shelter. The surprised dawn attack yielded positive result as the troops discovered well concealed observation posts on trees in the villages constructed by the terrorists to give them early warning of troops movement or approach. In addition the troops found out that the observation posts though tree tops, were constructed in such a manner with chairs and ropes to pull up foods and other needs by the sentry without necessarily coming down the trees. To also save for the rainy...
