Husband to one of the victims who lost her finger in Manchester terror attack has narrated how his wife’s iPhone saved her from being killed. Lisa Bridgett, 45, who sustained several injuries from the sad incident, was at Arianda Grande’s concert with her daughter and daughter’s friend. According to report, Salman Ramadan Abedi, a Mancunian of Libyan descent was responsible for the bomb that killed 22 persons and injured 59 people in Manchester. But Lisa was on a call at the time Salman Abedi detonated the deadly bomb. Her husband Steve, 45, narrated that his wife who had surgery and was due to have another operation after suffering multiple injuries, including a fractured ankle and a large wound on her thigh was very lucky to be alive. According to him the smashed phone slowed down the nut which chopped off her middle finger adding that the fact that she was on the phone at the time probably saved her life.

Ibrahim Magu The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, says he would end corruption in Nigeria in the next 12 months. Magu spoke during the official opening of the Ibadan Zonal Office and Stakeholders Engagement Session, held in Iyagaku, Ibadan. He notes that despite the challenges being faced by the agency, the anti-corruption war had been a success. The Nigerian Navy has handed over 17 suspected oil thieves with 47,450 litres of diesel to Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Akwa Ibom for prosecution. The Commander, NNS Jubilee, Ikot Abasi, Commodore Saidu Garba, who spoke at the handing over in Ikot Abasi on Saturday said the suspects were arrested by naval special patrol team. Garba added that 13 of the 17 suspects were arrested at Mobil Jetty in Ibeno Local Government, while four suspects were arrested at Ataba Community. He said that items recovered from the suspects, include 47, 450 litres of liquid suspected to be diesel, five Cotonou wooden boats and 188 empty drums of 250 litres each. He said the Navy will continue to provide adequate security and combat all security challenges within the nation’s maritime domain for national development.   Supreme Court Justices Sylvester Ngwuta and John Okoro arrested at their official residences in Abuja in the early hours of Saturday are in the custody the Department of State Service (DSS). It is gathered that the two men will be arraigned on alleged corruption charges on Monday in Abuja. Media aide to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ahuraka Isah, confirmed the arrest of Justices Nwgwuta and Okoro. Isah, says the reasons for the arrest were still not known to him noting that Justice Walter Onnoghen, the next in rank to the incumbent CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, was not among the Justices of the apex court arrested as earlier reported. Sources confirmed that Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court in Abuja was also arrested by the operatives of the DSS after breaking into his official residence at about 1am on Saturday. President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the South African Government to commend the country’s Supreme Court of Appeal’s judgement that confirmed the conviction of Henry Okah over terrorism charges. The court which is said to have upheld a 20-year prison term for Okah having found him guilty on two out of the six-counts relating to the Warri bombings labeled against him. The court was also said to have affirmed a 12-year sentence for his role in the October 1, 2010 Abuja bombing. The convictions that were upheld were said to be those in respect of the Warri bombing, relating to Okah’s providing finance and equipment without which the bombing would not have been executed. A Presidency source told State House correspondents on the condition of anonymity on Saturday that the Federal Government had sent what he called “a measured letter” to the South African government on the matter.   The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, says he has no grudge against the state party chairman, Isaac Kekemeke. Speaking after a closed-door meeting with the party chairman at residence in Akure, Akeredolu says he met with the chairman to discuss how the party would be victorious in the forthcoming governorship election. Things fell apart between Akeredolu and Kekemeke before the primary election of the party over the issue of alleged endorsement of an aspirant. The party had been engulfed in crisis following the rejection of the recommendation of the Electoral Appeal Committee by the National Working Committee of the party. The committee had recommended that the result of the September 3, 2016 primary election should be annulled.

Former governor of Delta State, James Onanefe Ibori, will become a free man in December, after spending half of his jail term in prisons in the United Kingdom. But it was not clear whether he will immediately return home because of a legal proceedings concerning the confiscation of his assets worth tens of millions of dollars, were unresolved. They were supposed to have been resolved years ago, but have ground to a halt due to the allegations of police corruption and the prospect of Ibori taking his case to the Court of Appeal. A London court was told on Friday that Ibori would appeal against his conviction on the grounds that British police and lawyers involved in his case were themselves corrupt.
