Flood wreaks havoc in Sokoto Destroys houses, farmlands and bridge


No fewer than 50 houses have been destroyed by flood at Kutufare village in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Also, one of the bridges linking the village and farmlands was affected by the rampaging flooding.The member of the state House of Assembly representing the area, Alhaji Sani Yakubu, who confirmed this to journalists in Sokoto, said assorted household items belonging to the victims were destroyed by the flood.  The lawmaker said the incident occurred on the night of July 26, following the overflow of water from Kalmalo River.
Yakubu further stated that about 65 farmlands and assorted farm produce including sweet potatoes, millet, guinea corn, beans and cassava, worth millions of naira were destroyed by the flood.
He appealed to the state government to, as a matter of urgency, provide succour to the affected villagers, adding that most of their livelihoods had been destroyed.

He also appealed to the state government to take urgent steps to save the road from total collapse.
