Jonathan’s Alleged N100million Cash Gift Tears Chibok Parents, Community Leaders Apart

  Controversy has erupted between parents of the kidnapped girls and leaders of the Chibok community in Abuja over an alleged N100million cash gift given by President Goodluck Jonathan. PUNCH reports that some of the parents, who spoke in separate interviews on Tuesday with the British Broadcasting Corporation Hausa service, accused the Chibok community leaders of making a fortune out of their misfortune. NCAA suspends ASky Airlines for flying Ebola virus victim into Nigeria

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has suspended all ASky Airlines flight operations into Nigeria over the transportation of an Ebola virus victim into the country. Benedict Adeyileka, the Acting Director-General of the NCAA, announced the decision in a statement issued by the General Manager, Public Communications of NCAA, Fan Ndubuoke, in Lagos on Monday. Adeyileka said that the regulatory authority had to take the action to protect Nigerians from the deadly Ebola virus, currently ravaging some parts of Africa. ASky Airline is an important player in East, West and Central Africa, operating 80 flights into Lagos and Abuja weekly. The airline flew a Liberian infected with Ebola virus into Lagos, where he died. Adeyileka said the Country Manager of ASky airlines had been invited to explain issues relating to the trip but that he could not offer any conclusive or substantial evidence on the matter. Flood wreaks havoc in Sokoto Destroys houses, farmlands and bridge

No fewer than 50 houses have been destroyed by flood at Kutufare village in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Also, one of the bridges linking the village and farmlands was affected by the rampaging flooding.The member of the state House of Assembly representing the area, Alhaji Sani Yakubu, who confirmed this to journalists in Sokoto, said assorted household items belonging to the victims were destroyed by the flood. Yakubu further stated that about 65 farmlands and assorted farm produce including sweet potatoes, millet, guinea corn, beans and cassava, worth millions of naira were destroyed by the flood. Boko Haram kills 8, blows up bridge in Yobe

Boko Haram  insurgents have attacked a remote community in Yobe State, killing no fewer than eight people. The insurgents also blew up a bridge linking the communities with other North East states of Adamawa, Borno and Gombe, residents said. The gunmen attacked Kartako in Gujba Local Government Area  of Yobe State, about 25 kilometres from Damaturu, the state capital, on Monday night. “They came to the town at about 7.30p.m. shooting sporadically,” a police source said. Residents said the insurgents first ambushed some military troops at their base in the town before they started shooting into people’s houses. Doctor who treated more than 100 Ebola patients dies from the virus

  The Sierra Leonean doctor who treated more than 100 Ebola patients has also died. Dr Sheik Umar Khan (pictured above), who was hailed as a national hero for disregarding his own health and helping sick patients, died today July 29th from the disease after being diagnosed with the virus last week. He contacted the virus despite wearing protective gear when treating patients. In an interview last month, the 39yr old doctor had expressed fears for his life because of his constant contact with Ebola patients. "I am afraid for my life. Health workers are prone to the disease because we are the first port of call for somebody who is sickened by the disease. Early this morning July 29th, a man was found dead head down inside a well (pictured above) with his slippers beside the well in a house at Akanyn street, Shibiri Rd, Ilemba in Ojo, Ajangbadi, Lagos. Many residents of the house had fetched water from the well and even made use of the water before someone discovered there was a corpse inside it. When he was eventually pulled from the well, he was recognized as someone who lived around..a carpenter whose wife recently left him. Some people claimed to have seen him the previous day, very drunk. No one knew how he fell into the well. A source told LIB that the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ojo division and Ajangbadi police were contacted and they came to remove the corpse and took it away for fuurther investigation. El Rufai's son Hamza El Rufai died this morning in a fatal accident. Here are pics from the accident scene. Hamza was driving the black Lexus car (pictured above) when he ran into a stationery blue colored Volkswagen Saloon car around the Ningi Barrack along A.Y.A - Kubwa road aroudn  5.30am this morning July 29th. Two persons were involved in the crash but only Hamza died. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, his corpse was taken to the national mosque by his parents while the crashed vehicles were deposited at the Maitama Police station. Nigerian ambassador, 3 ECOWAS staff, 55 others had contact with Lagos Ebola victim

59 people including the Nigerian Ambassador to Liberia, Chigozie Obi Nnadozie are said to have had direct and indirect contact with the late Liberian man, Patrick Sawyer, who died on Friday July 25th from the Ebola Virus in Lagos.  At a Joint Ministerial Press briefing of the Lagos State Ministry of Health and Federal Ministry of Health on development concerning the disease yesterday July 28th, the state Commissioner of Health, Dr Jide Idris said out of the 59 people who had contact with the late Patrick Sawyer, 44 were hospital contacts (38 healthcare workers & 6 laboratory staff) and 15 Airport contacts comprising 3 ECOWAS staff-driver, Liaison, and Protocol officers, Nigerian Ambassador to Monrovia, two nursing staff and five Airport passenger handlers. A bomb explosion has ripped through an NNPC depot in Kano, according to the Nigeria Police Force social media page. Residents of Kano who have also taken to the social media posting updates say there is heavy casualty but i cannot independly verify such claims.

Bricklayer Dies Testing Buller-Proof Charm with a Gun

Pandemonium broke out in the Asipa community as an apprentice bricklayer, identified as Rasheed Sulaiman, was shot dead while testing the potency of a bullet-proof charm given to him by a herbalist. A resident of Asipa, a community in the Ife North Local Government Area, told PUNCH Metro that Sulaiman, on Saturday called his cousin, Siji, to follow him to a secluded place to test the charm. Sulaiman wore the amulet and gave a gun to his cousin to fire at him. The cousin fired the shot and killed Sulaiman instantly. Residents were unaware of the mission of duo, but the sound of a gunshot was said to have attracted attention of the people of the area to where the incident happened. The Police in Kano have arrested five male suspects for their complicity in bomb attacks in the ancient city, including the Sunday bomb blast at St. Charles Catholic Church in which at least five people were killed and eight were injured. First Class honors graduates arrested over internet fraud

The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) have arrested a 6-man internet fraud syndicate that includes a First Class honor graduate who specialize in designing the organisation’s websites and using same to defraud unsuspecting job seekers, this is according to a report on the Nigerian police website. A petition dated 22nd August 2013, received from OPEC FUND for International Development alleged that a website designed as “OFID Scholarship Website” with OFID name and logo has been used to defraud innocent Nigerian applicants.  That in the website, applicants were required to pay N2,500.00 as an application fee and over 2,000 applicants responded and paid the fees through the First Bank Account Number 2020874607 and Access Bank Account Number 0056941009 with the name OFID WSAS NG.  The petitioner stated further that it was one of the victims that contacted OFID via facebook, accusing OFID of being complicit in the fraud. INEC Sacks 30 Staff Over Election-Related Offences

The Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] has fired no fewer than 30 of its personnel accused of aiding electoral malpractices across the country during the 2011 gene ral election, the electoral body has said. Sixteen of the dismissed staff were punished for their alleged involvement in election-related offences in Anambra state, the South-East state which elections are usually tainted by rigging and thuggery.
