President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep shock and horror at the shootings which recently rocked Munich, Germany. On behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Buhari sends his most sincere condolences to the families and friends of victims of the barbaric act. The President says it is quite unfortunate and inconceivable that the forces of evil do not relent on their activities, but expresses confidence that with the unanimity of purpose from all forces around the world, the workers and perpetrators of these evil acts will not prevail. The President also assures the people of Germany that Nigerians as a people are standing with them at this time and are ready to assist in any way to defeat the planners and executors of such crimes.
Kinsmen of the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday warned the Peoples Democratic Party and the National Assembly not to damage the integrity of the minister over the alleged non-inclusion of the Lagos-Calabar Railway project in the 2016 Budget. The relatives of the former governor of Rivers State, who came together under the aegis of Concerned All Progressives Congress Members, explained that the saga was a blackmail to smear Amaechi’s image. The APC members from Ikwere Local Government Area of the state also drummed support for the minister, stating that Amaechi has always maintained a high sense of responsibility in public offices. Abnedgo Don-Evarada, a former media aide to Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The suspect was arrested on Monday in Port- Harcourt, Rivers State for allegedly offering a bribe of N10million to the EFCC’s Zonal Head, Ishaq Salihu. Mr. Don-Evarada ran into trouble when he approached Mr. Salihu over a case involving the Senior Special Assistant to the Bayelsa’s state governor on Millennium Development Goals, Apere Embelakpo and his wife, Fiene Beauty. Mr. Embelakpo is being investigated for alleged diversion of N800million, being funds meant for MDGs, while his wife is being investigated for alleged money laundering, forgery and suspicious transactions to the tune of N200million.
