INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu Announce Dates For Concluding Rivers State Elections

The chairman of INEC Professor Mahmood Yakubu has stated that the Rivers State hitherto inconclusive election will be concluded latest July 31st, in a hearing by the House of representative public petitions committee INEC Chairman categorically stated that all matters as regards the elections in Rivers State will be concluded by the end of July.

In his presentation the INEC chairman said elections will be conducted in over 1000 units spread over 11 local governments, responding to the question why the results in Ogubolo local government was not released even when it was concluded, the Chairman stated that he will revert to his office and get back to the committee.

The chairman House of representative public petitions committee, Hon Uzonna Nkem-Abonta asked the chairman of INEC if it will be right to spend task payers money to conduct an election in areas where the total number of electorates will not affect the overall result of the election, INEC chairman in his response stated that every person must be allowed to vote irrespective of the final outcome anything less will result to cancellation of the election by the courts and he pointed to the Nasarawa State case where the court cancelled an election and ordered for a re run in just one polling unit.

The electorate in Rivers state will be relieved as the INEC boss has unequivocally declared that the elections in Rivers State will be concluded on or before the end of July, this will bring to end a 4 month impasse after elections into State and National assemblies were declared inconclusive by Independent National electoral commission.
