Ministry Of Transportation To Partner World Bank On Comprehensive Land Transportation Policy

The Federal Ministry of Transportation is to partner the World Bank on the development of a comprehensive Land Transportation Policy in the Country.

Hon. Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi while receiving a team from the World Bank, Washington, Dc, United State of America, led by Senior Transport Engineer, Africa Region Transport Unit, Tesfamichael Nahusenay Mitiku said the Federal Ministry of Transportation is ready to work harmoniously and partner with he World Bank team on the development of  a comprehensive Policy guideline that will promote and galvanize Land Transportation  in the Country. “I will be glad if you can work with us and develop a comprehensive Land Transportation Policy”, he said.

The Minister reiterated that the Ministry of Transportation has not been able to take full charge of Land Transportation due to lack of relevant and appropriate Policy guidelines for necessary Administrative Management of the Sector. He regretted the gap created presently which is hampering the efforts of the Ministry at revamping the Sector.

On the development and revamping of the Rail Sector, the Minister reiterated that the Railway lines being constructed would be linked to Ports as it is done in other clime noting that the major problems envisage for this laudable project was that a lot of demolition of existing structures along the Rail line would take place which will attract huge compensation on the part of Government. He said, when completed the whole Country would have been linked by Rail which will address the challenges associated with the movement of goods and services in the Country.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the Team, Tesfamichael Nahusenay Mitiku said the team were in the Ministry to inform the Hon. Minister of the interest of the World Bank to identify and partner with the Ministry to   develop  Land Transportation Policy and Capacity building for Land transport Administration and  Management.
