Nigeria’s Telecoms Users Increase By 340,525 In January – NCC 
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has disclosed that the active subscribers in telecommunications industry increased by 340,525 in the month of January 2016.
 
The regulatory body made this known in its Monthly Subscriber Data, which was made available to NAN in Lagos on Sunday, which noted that the active lines in Nigeria stood at 151,357,769 for the month of January, against the figure of 151,017,244 in December, 2015. 

According to the data, 149,022,919 of the 151,357,769 active numbers subscribe to the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network services. The GSM operators’ active customers increased by 341,557 from the 148,681,362 subscribers they recorded in the month of December. The Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) operators had 2,147,982 active users in January, indicating a decrease of 745 from the 2,148,727 customers they had in December.


Also, the monthly subscriber data showed that the Fixed Wired/Wireless networks’ consumers decreased to 186,868 in January, as they lost 287 customers to their record of 187,155 in December.

 The chart revealed that the teledensity of the country’s telecommunications industry increased to 108.11 per cent in January, from 107.87 per cent in the month of December. The teledensity statistics measure the percentage of a country’s population with access to telecommunications services as determined from the subscriber base.

Nigeria’s teledensity is currently calculated by NCC on a population of 140 million people.

Don’t Smear Amaechi’s Name, Kinsmen Warn PDP, NASS

Kinsmen of the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday warned the Peoples Democratic Party and the National Assembly not to damage the integrity of the minister over the alleged non-inclusion of the Lagos-Calabar Railway project in the 2016 Budget. Abnedgo Don-Evarada, a former media aide to Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The suspect was arrested on Monday in Port- Harcourt, Rivers State for allegedly offering a bribe of N10million to the EFCC’s Zonal Head, Ishaq Salihu. Mr. Don-Evarada ran into trouble when he approached Mr. Salihu over a case involving the Senior Special Assistant to the Bayelsa’s state governor on Millennium Development Goals, Apere Embelakpo and his wife, Fiene Beauty. Mr. Embelakpo is being investigated for alleged diversion of N800million, being funds meant for MDGs, while his wife is being investigated for alleged money laundering, forgery and suspicious transactions to the tune of N200million.
