How Aviation Minister Stella Oduah Forced Cash-Strapped Aviation Agency To Spend $1.6 Million On Two BMW Armored Cars For Her

Image
By Saharareporters  SaharaReporters has obtained documents further exposing the depth of corruption and mismanagement of public funds at Nigeria’s Ministry of Aviation headed by Stella Oduah. One of the documents details how Ms. Oduah compelled the cash-strapped Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to purchase two armored BMW cars for the minister. NCAA is the agency charged with ensuring the airworthiness of commercial planes flying within Nigeria’s airspace. Two officials of the agency told SaharaReporters that the NCAA did not have enough funds to upgrade equipment, send staff for critical training, and hire enough qualified staff. “Yet, all the minister is concerned about is to have two exotic BMW cars from the little money we have for operations,” one of the sources said. The documents obtained by SaharaReporters indicate that the transaction for the purchase of the two BMW vehicles started in June 2013. However, the request for delivery of and pa...

BBM app for Android and iPhone released in 'days'

Image
BBM for Android and iOS could be with us in days, as the struggling company admits to the world it faces "challenging times." Yeah, we won't hold our breath. The Blackberry Messenger app was scheduled for a release date weeks ago for iOS and Android, but the deadline came and went before BlackBerry finally admitted it wasn't ready to release the app, blaming imposter apps on the Google Play -- despite coughing up the iOS app onto the Apple App Store in a couple of lucky countries. But now BlackBerry marketing boss Frank Boulben told Reuters he expects the app to surface for iOS and Android "within days." We'll believe when we see it, Frankie. In an unusual move, the struggling company behind the new Z30, Z10, Q5, and Q10 has published an open letter in various newspapers such as Canada's Globe and Mail today, assuring customers they "can continue to count on BlackBerry." The open letter highlights what th...

Film on Boko Haram Hits the Screen As Authorities Pull All Stops to Censor It

Image
Avicious would-be suicide bomber is heading for Nigeria’s vast metropolis of Lagos and only a down-on-her-luck prostitute can stop a horrific attack. This ominous fiction forms part of “Boko Haram,” a new film by Ghanaian-Nigeria director Pascal Amanfo, which has been banned by censors in Ghana and shunned by cinema owners in Nigeria. A movie inspired by the very real and brutal militant group active in Nigeria was potentially so inflammatory that it was released in the country with the title “Nation Under Siege” to avoid a backlash. “Boko Haram,” loosely translated, means “Western education is forbidden” and the group has said it is fighting to impose a strict religeous state in northern Nigeria. Amanfo admits his film raises uncomfortable questions about the Boko Haram conflict, which has left thousands dead in northern Nigeria since 2009 — including the 40 students massacred in their sleep at the Yobe State College of Agriculture on September 29. “I want to provoke ...
